TYPHOON ONDOY STRIKES LUZON
HEAVY RAINS CAUSED MASSIVE FLOODING AROUND METRO MANILA.
CLASSES SUSPENDED TOMORROW
Yesterday, Typhoon Ondoy (International name: Ketsana) crossed through Luzon with unexpected results. Most of Metro Manila was engulfed by massive floods as heavy rains crippled the Metro throughout the afternoon and the night
The cities of Marikina, Quezon City, Manila, and Pasig (all in Metro Manila) and the towns of Cainta, San Mateo, Antipolo, and Rodriguez (all in Rizal) were submerged in heavy floods due to massive rainfall that reached 565 mm in 24 hours breaking the old record of 334.5 mm in 24 hours set over 4 decades ago. Areas that have never flooded before like those in Quezon City had suffered floods that were 6-12 feet deep. These floods experienced in the past 24 hours were equivalent to a month's worth of rainfall.
Due to the massive flooding, supply of electricity was cut-off in most parts of the Metro to prevent people from getting electrocuted and damage to electrical lines.
Residents in Marikina, Cainta and Antipolo were forced to spend the rainy afternoon and cold night above their roofs as their houses were flooded with waters that reached over two-storied houses. Rescue efforts had an hard time getting to those who need to be rescued since it was late into the night when the weather cooperated and rescue operations began. There were children, old people and even pregnant women that were stuck during the night.
Even famous people were affected by the storm, actress Cristine Reyes was stuck at the roof of her house together with her family in Provident Village, Marikina, which had suffered one the most heaviest floods during the storm's wrath yesterday.
Motorists were stuck and stranded across major roads and streets inside and outside of Metro Manila, even in the expressways like the NLEX and SLEX, people were stuck into their cars for long durations.
As of the time I write this blog, the death toll from the storm is at 52 (most died from drowning). Unfortunately, the death toll is expected to rise. Over 300,000 people were displaced and evacuated from their homes due to flooding and landslides.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council also announced that classes in all levels in Metro Manila and some parts of Rizal which includes Cainta, San Mateo, Rodriguez (Montalban), and Antipolo are suspended tomorrow. The Commission on Higher Education also added that classes in colleges in Region 4-A which includes Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon are also suspended tomorrow.
In my sight about the typhoon, THANK GOD we never suffered from the flooding that was along our area since our subdivision is in a high place, but we had no electricity from 1:30 pm yesterday until 12:15 pm today. But I was very worried to my classmates especially those living in Marikina, Cainta and Antipolo, and some parts of Quezon City especially below our subdivision in Northview 2 and Serra Monte Villas. As I write this blog, I see a lot of helicopters coming into the general direction of Cainta and Marikina trying to help the people in those areas.
Let's pray for the people who are currently in this time of peril, let's hope that they may be reached by the men and women who had sacrificed their time and lives to help the people who are in need. Guide us in our time of need.

A week after the ACET.... some happenings in Claret.
It has been a week since the Ateneo College Entrance Test, I saw the ACET as something as an huge English Proficiency Test as most of the test had English, there were also a lot of Math questions, the essay, and it's really a time-pressured test. Where in one sub-test, you have to answer 25 questions for only 5 minutes.
Back in Claret, I joined some school organizations, like the school paper Tanglaw, and to provide matter for the Claret Debate Society. I joined them to do more in school before we graduate in March 2010. I want to leave Claret with a good mark.
We had our last exposure in Kalayaan Avenue, where we spent time in an depressed area of the city. We also planned the community project for the area, which will be implemented in January 2010
The USTET will be on October 25 in Espana, not like the previous 2 years, where Claretians took the test in Claret. Good luck to those who will take the DLSU-CET on October 11 (I'm not intending to go to DLSU)

3 Days of Activities...
To start the month of September, 4-BAS embarked on 3 days of activities where they would experience these activities for the last time in claret.
September 1 & 2: THE LAST RETREAT
In the first 2 days of September, we went to our last class retreat in Claret, as for 2 days inside the Claret Retreat House we were cut-off from the outside world. During the retreat bonds were formed to an divided group of men. Some time to relax from the stress of school. The food there was very good. In those 2 days, I was enlightened to enjoy the best in life. Hopefully this isn't the last retreat we would experience, let's hope that the planned batch retreat to Calaruega will go.
September 3: THE LAST FIELD TRIP as CLARETIANS
4-BAS fresh from the retreat, together with 4-SMA went to St. Agatha's Resort in Guiguinto, Bulacan for the last Field Trip as Claretians. Unfortunately for me, I had sore throat and clogged nose so I was unable to swim, but I brought my camera and took shots during the day in HIGH DEFINITION (HD). We came to the resort at 8:00 am from Claret. There were the Aqua Sports, swimming at wave pool, a film viewing, and great snacks and lunch. Afterwards, there was no stopover and we went back to Claret at 4:00 pm.
This may be the last time we would ever experience these kind of activities, we will leave Claret with some smiles.
